Meet Doug and Winnie Morse – the latest addition to the Viniterra family. They recently moved to New Kent and have been steadily unpacking between snowstorms.  This winter’s snowfall has been one of their biggest surprises upon moving to Viniterra, but they are happily adjusting to the Virginia countryside.

Contentedly retired, Doug & Winnie are both former IBM employees. Winnie fully retired before moving to Virginia after spending over 34 years with IBM. Doug also worked for IBM for 20 years, then in various global high technology companies in senior executive roles. Doug currently runs a boutique consulting firm focused on the services industries that drives business growth though innovation and corporate transformation.   

Virginia was calling their names when it came time to retire, with a desire to live closer to family.  Winnie has two sisters in Virginia; one in New Kent County and the other in Fredericksburg. Doug is a 4th generation California native, but experienced Virginia during his career and enjoyed the area. When the New Kent Winery first opened, Doug & Winnie were visiting Winnie’s family in New Kent. They especially enjoyed a tour of the New Kent Winery that highlighted all the reclaimed wood by E.T. Moore. While here on vacation last August, they saw the E.T. Moore model home. Having appreciated the winery craftsmanship during their tour, they immediately fell in love with the model home. All the stars aligned and they purchased it, never looking back.

So far, Doug and Winnie’s favorite aspect of the Viniterra community is being able to walk to and from the Winery. They don’t play golf, but love to ‘wine’ and take full advantage of winery activities and offerings. Over the last 15 years they have worked at family owned wineries in California and toured wineries all over the world, including attending many wine events and festivals globally. 

Besides their passion for wine, Doug & Winnie enjoy various hobbies; Winnie is an avid knitter and has created a number of items that are very useful in the Virginia winter. She looks forward to gardening starting in the spring. Doug is a “car guy” who relishes all forms of motorsports and cars. He was a docent at the famous Blackhawk Museum and has worked and displayed at various Concours d’Elegance. He also enjoys woodworking.

Doug & Winnie are embracing the Viniterra lifestyle and look forward to exploring more of Virginia when the weather changes.
