Winemaking in the region dates back to the early 1600's when British law was the rule of the land and required the planting of 20 grapevines for each male colonist over the age of 20. Although times have changed, the art of winemaking is much the same today as it was back then. And here at New Kent Winery, that includes the construction of the winery. More than 12,000 square feet in size, the winery is constructed with more than 70% reclaimed materials including 40-foot heart pine trusses and pre-Civil War brick. The end result is a modern winery with the latest equipment but with its roots firmly planted in the past. |
