REES JONES’ VISION FOR THE COURSE AT VINITERRA
“The overall design philosophy at Viniterra was to work with the natural site elements to create a variety of memorable holes that genuinely challenge more accomplished players, but remain playable and enjoyable for average and beginning golfers.
We wanted to create as much diversity as possible, in all aspects of the design, to help ensure that all players could enjoy each round.
The club will utilize five sets of tee markers on each hole to allow the club to shift each set of markers on a daily basis if so desired to create a wide range of yardage fluctuation, providing a continually varied experience for the members.
The diversity of the natural topography is unique and we worked very hard to insure the course maximized the various plateaus, rolls, and valleys of the site. Each hole fits the existing contours, so that very little grading was required.
By making the best use of the varied topography throughout the site, we were able to incorporate a variety of wetland areas, both as strategic hazards and as aesthetically unique course components. The site also features a nice blend of wooded and open areas, which creates more diversity among the holes and throughout the round.
This course also features a unique and dramatic collection of Par 3 holes. Varied in yardage and orientation, each hole incorporates a significant, natural 'draw' as a strategic hazard. And by including a variety of tees and angles of play, we ensured that each hole is also enjoyable for less experienced players.” —Rees Jones
