Getting to Know Your Golf Superintendent: Ryan Dwyer

Hailing from a small town in upstate New York – Theresa, NY to be exact – Ryan grew up about six hours outside New York City.  He attended the State University of New York at Cobleskill and earned a bachelor’s degree in Golf Course Management.  Ryan played on the golf team in college. Today he can be found tending the greens at The Club at Viniterra as the Golf Course Superintendent.

Ryan has been working at Viniterra for 2.5 years, and prior to that, he was Superintendent at Two Rivers Country Club in Williamsburg.  He served at Viniterra as the assistant superintendent during the grow-in, and interned at Oak Hill Country Club, Paramount Country Club and The Thousand Island Country Club.

Like most golfers and golf course superintendents, Ryan loves being outside on a regular basis.  He says he could “never be at a desk all day.”  He does play golf about a dozen times a year, and averages in the low 80’s when he plays.

Ryan’s goal is to continue to improve the playing conditions at Viniterra and make Viniterra one of the best golf courses in Virginia.  He’s very proud of the conditions of the greens and golf course after one of the hottest summers we have ever experienced in Virginia.

When not at work, Ryan can be found spending time with his daughter, Emma, rooting for the Broncos, wearing Syracuse orange, and avidly hunting in the woods.
