We would like to give a WARM WELCOME to our new Head Golf Professional, Matt O’Grady. Matt has twenty plus years of experience in the golf industry, that has taken him through four states, Oregon, Washington, North Carolina and now Virginia. This is Matt’s fourth Head Professional position, most recently at MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, NC. Matt grew up in the great state of Oregon and has enjoyed the game of golf since the age of twelve. After attending the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!), Matt joined the PGA of America and became a member in 2007. When he is not in golf shop or on the course playing, Matt spends his free time with his wife Kara, son Breccan and daughter Quinn. If you have not already please stop by the pro-shop to meet Matt.
Viniterra is known for its award winning wine but if you are in the mood for something a little different like a good beer there are plenty of local craft breweries to check out. One that is about 20 minutes from Viniterra located near Williamsburg is Brass Canon Brewery. This is was a delightful adventure getting to meet Phil, President of Brass Cannon. The founders started as homebrewers and ran into the problem of friends asking for more… so they started a business and it has been successful with plans to expand into a larger facility this year. Our favorite was the Angry Scott, this tasting paired well with a stop on the way back for lunch at Rose & Crown Tavern in New Kent.
We are excited to welcome Boyer Homes as one of our Signature Builders. Bob Boyer of Boyer Homes has been building in Viniterra while working with Dumont Homes. With support from Dumont Homes Bob has branched out and opened his own business, Boyer Homes, Inc.
Bob Boyer simply stated, “I have learned the value of what reputation is and how much that means in the custom home building business. Building the house is only a part of the equation, interacting and working with each customer and building a relationship is the other key to a successful business.”
- Bob Boyer kept the construction of our new home on schedule, and all through the construction process we found Bob Boyer to be very responsive to any questions. We would highly recommend Bob Boyer and Boyer Homes, Inc. as your choice for your new home in Viniterra.

This past Friday with the weather in the 70’s I walked over to New Kent Winery’s Annual Holiday Open House. It was the perfect way to spend a late December afternoon by sitting out on the porch sipping on a glass of wine. The staff did it up right and had plenty of munchies to snack on while I did some last minute shopping, picking up some wine, local honey, and chocolates. As I made my way up to the tasting bar I realized that the day was getting even better, they had Kelly from Chocolates by Kelly pairing chocolates with the wine! Thanks again to the staff at New Kent Winery for such a great time.
This year’s celebration of GREAT FOOD and DRINK was definitely on point this past Saturday Evening. The Viniterra Holiday party is as always a fun time for all of us to get together! Our family continues to grow and it was a packed festive house of residents and staff. Speaking of staff, compliments to Chef Jimmy Forrest for the amazing ribs!
We wish everyone a wonderful and safe Holiday Season and a Happy New Year!

This past summer, The Club at Viniterra’s head golf pro Josh Speight competed in the 2012 PGA Mid-Atlantic Section Championship held at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia. Josh finished in 3rd place overall, securing a spot in the 46th PGA Professional National Championship taking place June 23-26, 2013. The tournament is held at one of the country’s most scenic golf destinations in Oregon’s Sun River Resort. The Championship boasts a 312 player field with 41 PGA regional sections represented from around the country. Top 20 finishers earn a berth in the coveted 4th PGA Tour Major, the PGA Championship.
We recently had an opportunity to sit down with Josh and discuss his mentality heading into next week….
What are your feelings going into the Sun River tournament and competing for spot at the heralded PGA Championship?
JS: I am very excited to be competing in this great championship. I feel that my game is where it needs to be and I am ready for the challenge. It would be a great honor and accomplishment to qualify for the PGA Championship and I am looking forward to the opportunity.
How have you prepared mentally and physically to compete at such a high level?
JS: I have been practicing every day since the beginning of March. I have worked really hard on my putting, which has traditionally been a weakness, I feel that I am putting better than I ever have. The practice has been paying off.
What challenges do you foresee competing out West in a different golf environment? – How do you plan to overcome?
JS: The biggest challenge will be adjusting to playing at such a high altitude. Sun iver Resort is almost 4,000 ft. above sea level. This thinner air will make the golf ball go much farther, I have heard about 10% farther. It will be interesting to see how I adjust. I will be arriving three days prior to the start of the event to help prepare my game for the conditions.
Best of luck Josh, We know you will represent Viniterra proudly!!
